I, like many others, yearn to own things that will be very rare and VERY expensive by the time I have bank statements with actual commas in them. Things like a 1969 Dodge Charger and a Porsche 928 S4. But this, I would actually consider selling an organ to drive every day. I cannot believe the design of the E34 5 Series dates back to 1987. JUST LOOK AT IT:
The shape, the wheels, the stateliness. I am not a BMW fan, and I’ve known stereotypical bimmer bois, but this is peak BMW. Small displacement V8, manual transmission, and perfect body lines. This example sold on BAT for a staggering $ 23,788 back in 2017. It is some special spec 1 of 32 but still, prices for minty E34's is TOO DAMN HIGH.
I just needed to share my want for a nice thing with car people who might understand.

I get it. There’s a not so nice white E34 I see regularly, it’s got the saw blade looking wheels and I get a bit jealous everytime I see it.
After a bit of googling turns out the wheels I like so much are actually 850i wheels

Trust me, you don’t actually want an E34 equipped with an M60 V8. The chassis was never designed for a V8, it was meant to house an I6. The M60 is shoehorned in so tightly that they had to move the brake booster out next to the radiator. The procedure to replace the alternator is removing the radiator,
oil filter housing, power steering pump, and draining the fluids from all those systems while disconnecting a bunch of hardlines. You don’t even wanna know the nightmare that replacing the lower and upper oil pans and gaskets is.

The E34 may be my favorite BMW. I friend of mine had one in college that was in fairly good shape for ~20 years old - the interior was immaculate. I thought it was pretty cool - though it would have been cooler with V8+manual.

They’re very reliable engines though. Currently swapping my 530i to a 540i lol. I love V8 E34s

I think if I was going for reliability and ease of maintenance/repairs, I drop a 1uz out of one of my lexus’ into it. I think 300hp would be plenty, and manual swaps are available. Arghh one day...
